Making the Most of Summer
June 1st, 2010
Spring is over and summer is in full swing here in the Low Country. For most of us, this means shedding long sleeves and dark colors in exchange for shorts, tank tops and those beautiful, bright colors. But what does the change in seasons mean for your home? How do you make your interior space reflect the changes going on outdoors? Here are just a few tips and trends that make changing your décor with the seasons easy, breezy and breath taking.
Does your house have a primarily neutral palette? Try trading darker accent colors for lighter and brighter colors. Love your red pillows too much to throw them in storage til fall? Try partnering them with some white or ivory accent pillows. Or if you’re feeling Patriotic, try going with an All-American theme for the summer months.
Bring out the Seashells! Replace rocks in hurricanes and apothecaries with your favorite seashells. Line a few of your favorite shells along your mantle or fill a bowl with them for display on your cocktail table.
Fresh flowers bring life to any home. Try keeping bouquets of fresh flowers in each room. They’ll brighten your day…and your décor!
Fresh fruit also makes a beautiful and easy centerpiece…and there’s a fruit to coordinate with just about any décor. Lemons are always a burst of beautiful bright color. Mix them with limes, green or red apples or pomegranates for a stunning (and tasty) burst of color! Use them as the base for an arrangement whole or in slices. The possibilities are endless!
None of these sound like they’d fit the bill for your space? Look outside for inspiration. The colors and textures of summer provide inspiration a-plenty! Still not sure about how to get started? Visit us at Cindy Barnett Interiors and we’ll help you bring the warmth and beauty of summer into your home!
